ABOUT US
WHO WE ARE
At BOND’S, our goal is to form lasting relationships with our customers by providing quality electronics, system design, and installation services that meet the needs of each customer who chooses to do business with us. We are family owned and operated and have been one of Austin’s leading home entertainment and electronics integrators for nearly 70 years. Founded in 1954, BOND’S has one of the finest showrooms and service facilities in Central Texas. BOND’S is an “Austin Tradition” with professional technicians and a knowledgeable and courteous staff who have helped thousands of customers, giving them the individual attention they deserve.
HOW WE STARTED
Our founder, Robert A. “Bob” Bond, is an incredible individual who has achieved many accomplishments throughout the years.
Bob entered the Deforest Training school in Chicago, IL after serving in the U.S Air Force during the Korean War. Upon graduating in 1953, he moved to Austin to enter the Electrical Engineering program at UT. In April of 1954, he founded Bond's. He continued working on his Master's degree, doing night calls until 11pm after a full day of classes. He enlisted his brother, Jim Bond, and his brother-in-law, John Jones to help run the business while he was in school.
As Bond’s continued to grow, by the early 1970’s, they became one of the largest television and electronics service companies in Texas. Serving many roles within the Texas Electronics Association, and the National Electronics Servicing Dealers Association, Bob was instrumental in his efforts supporting other television servicing dealers and the industry throughout the United States.
Bob's son, David Bond, started working at Bond's in 1976 while attending college, and later graduating from the University of Texas with a Bachelors degree in Business Management. By the late 1980’s, certain products, such as VCRs, Camcorders and telephone answering machines, were becoming obsolete so Bob & David worked together to broadened their scope of work, and by the late 1990's Bond’s started doing Commercial & Residential Custom Installations. Bond’s is now one of the leading Custom Integrators in central Texas, specializing in retrofit installations for existing homes including Home Theaters, in-wall & in-ceiling speakers, networking, outdoor TVs and audio system, as well as surveillance & security systems.
David is currently managing the business, and Bond’s has continued doing television repairs, and is one of the few “self servicing” Manufacturer Authorized Service Centers in Central Texas. As a member of one of the largest buying groups in the US, Bond’s pricing of new televisions can compete with large National Retailers. Unlike most Custom Integrators, Bond’s is unique in that we sell, install and service products for our customers.
We are very proud of our legacy, and our accomplishments, and we would like to thank each and every one of you for supporting Bond's since 1954!
TV MUSEUM
One of the most unique and memorable things about Bond’s is our TV Museum. While on a trip to the Smithsonian in Washington DC, David Bond saw a TV exhibit that showed the evolution of the Television and the many manufacturers who created these products. David’s father and our company founder, Robert Bond, was the first trained television technician in Austin and started our company in April, 1954 servicing televisions just after CBS came on the air. As our company grew, Bond’s became one of the largest television service centers in central Texas. David started working for Bond’s while attending college and saw many of these same TV’s being serviced. He would keep the ones not repaired because they were “cool looking”. Over the years, David collected a variety of televisions, and decided to create a “museum” of his own to show off the televisions his father had been servicing, and to show our customers how televisions have evolved. Many friends and customers have also donated their family TV to David to put into his collection, and we now have over 60 vintage TVs throughout the building dating back to 1948. While these TVs are not for sale, David does rent out certain sets for photo shoots, movie sets, music videos, and exhibits. One such exhibit was at the L.B.J. Library here in Austin. Please stop by when you are in the area, we would love to show off our little museum.
