Before you toss a TV that won't turn on, one number decides whether it's worth a few hundred in repairs or a trip back to the store for something new.

Your TV is on the fritz and now you're wondering if you need to hop on down to the nearest TV store or hunt down an authorized repair center. While the Bond's TV Repair Center shut down in June 2026, our 72 years of experience has given us an idea of what is and what isn't going to be worth repairing.

Here are the 3 factors to determining whether your TV should be repaired or replaced:

TV Size: A TV that is smaller than 50" is likely going to be cheaper to replace than to repair. Most repairs cost around $250 with parts and labor. If your TV costs less or just a little bit more than $250, it is going to be better to invest in a new TV rather than dumping hundreds into a TV that isn't even worth the cost of repairs. Larger TVs costing $800+, especially high end models such as an OLED, are going to be worth fixing.

TV Damage: If your TV sustained an impact on its screen, such as during a move to a new residence or from a toy thrown by a pet or child, the screen replacement is going to cost more than purchasing a new TV. The screen/panel is the most expensive part of the TV and manufacturers make it that way to encourage customers to purchase a new TV rather than repairing a broken screen.

TV Model: Each type of TV has its own unique technology, which will determine what diagnoses are possible and how expensive these issues will be. For example, OLED TVs utilize a technology that is derived from organic material. This means the organic LEDs will degrade faster and are at risk of "burn in" or an afterimage. Burn in is often a result from a static image on the screen that leads to the LEDs in that portion of the screen to degrade faster than the LEDs around them. Another example is Samsung's proprietary technology the One Connect, utilized by the Frame and some of their NeoQLED TVs. The One Connect is a separate box containing all the connections/inputs. It comes with a long cord - the One Connect cable - that connects the TV to the box. This allows the TV to sit flush with the wall and gives users the option to place the box within a receptacle behind or away from the TV. The One Connect box has its own circuitry that can fail and sometimes the One Connect cable itself needs replacement.

The most common issue is circuit board failure. TVs typically have 3 circuit boards: the power supply board, main PCB circuit board and the Tcon board. If you don't have your TV connected to a surge protector, getting it connected to one should be your top priority. Power surges are the main culprit for taking out power supply boards; since the power supply board feeds the power to the PCB board, sometimes the PCB board will sustain damage from a power surge as well. Other common issues are backlight failure and panel/screen damage.

Take a look at the table below for an estimate of common repair costs:

TV Symptoms

Most Common Diagnosis

Estimated Cost of Repair

Screen completely black or faded image on all or majority of the screen

Backlight failure

$300 for smaller TVs
$450 for TVs 55"-70"
$650 for TVs 75"-85"

Circular bright spots on screen

"Hot spots" caused by refractors on LEDs shifting/falling off. Best repair practice is to replace entire backlight system

$300 for smaller TVs
$450 for TVs 55" or larger

Spider web cracks, impact marks, vertical stripes across screen, pixelation/color distortion

Panel/screen damage

$500 for 32"-49" TVs
$700-$1,500 for 55"-75" normal LED TVs
$2,000-$4,000 for 75"-85" or for high end TVs

Wifi not connecting

Wifi module failure

$250-$350 for most TVs

TV not powering on with or without blinking power light

Circuit board failure - likely a main PCB or power supply board

$250-$400 for most TVs
$300-$500 for TVs with one connect

TV powering cycling on/off

Circuit board failure - likely a main PCB or power supply board

$250-$350 for most TVs

While some of the TV symptoms like a crack in the screen are a clear sign your TV is doomed, some of the issues aren't always a clear indication of total failure. There may be a chance your TV is experiencing an issue that can be fixed through basic troubleshooting. Take a minute to review the following troubleshooting steps:

Issue

Troubleshooting Steps

TV not powering on

Unplug TV for 60 seconds then plug back in to allow internal circuitry to reset.
Check that the outlet is active and if using a surge protector, try resetting or replacing surge protector
Make sure remote is sending signal to the TV; check batteries and ensure there are no signal obstructions. If using a universal remote, try switching to the original TV remote

TV not loading an app

Check for software updates on TV or app

TV has no image with sound or says "No connection/no signal"

Check that your source is powered on - if using a cable box try rebooting it
Make sure the right input is selected

Once you have determined whether your TV is worth repairing, your next step will be contacting the manufacturer to get a list of authorized repair centers in your area. If your TV is still under warranty, the manufacturer may request an official diagnosis from a certified technician before they reimburse the repair or issue a replacement.

If you're still not sure if your TV needs to be replaced, Bond's is happy to help you make the decision – and if it is time for a replacement, we'll help you find the TV that fits your lifestyle.

Now that you're in the market for a TV, deciphering what all the acronyms mean can be quite overwhelming. Here's a quick guide to the different TV technologies:

NeoQLED

Samsung Neo QLED uses thousands of precision-controlled Mini LEDs to create extraordinary contrast, exceptional brightness, and stunning color accuracy.

Instead of flooding the screen with light, Neo QLED directs light exactly where it's needed, producing:

Deep, cinematic blacks

Brilliant highlights with incredible detail

Vibrant, true-to-life color

Exceptional performance in bright living spaces

Smooth, crystal-clear motion for sports, movies, and gaming

The result is a television that looks just as incredible during a sunny Austin afternoon as it does during movie night.

Whether you're hosting friends to watch the Longhorns, enjoying a quiet evening with family, streaming the latest series, or listening to music throughout your home, Samsung's advanced processing continuously optimizes every scene for exceptional clarity, color, and detail.

OLED

A conventional LED television uses a backlight that shines through an LCD panel. Even with advanced local dimming, light inevitably leaks into darker areas of the screen, reducing contrast and limiting image accuracy.

OLED eliminates this compromise entirely.

Instead of relying on a single backlight, every individual pixel in an OLED display creates its own light and can turn completely on or off independently. Because each pixel produces its own light, the display can create perfect blacks directly next to brilliant highlights without blooming or halo effects. This pixel-level control results in:

Infinite contrast for exceptional depth and realism

True blacks with no backlight bleed

Exceptional color accuracy

Wide viewing angles for large gathering spaces

Outstanding HDR performance with breathtaking highlights

Accurate, vibrant color reproduction

Near-instant response times for sports and gaming

Ultra-thin designs that complement luxury interiors

The result is a viewing experience that feels remarkably lifelike. Blacks are truly black—not dark gray. Colors appear richer and more accurate. Bright highlights stand out without washing out surrounding details, and every scene has incredible depth and realism.

Whether you're watching the latest blockbuster, cheering on the Longhorns, streaming Formula 1, or enjoying nature documentaries, OLED reproduces content exactly as filmmakers and creators intended.

MicroRGB

Unlike conventional LED televisions that rely on a white backlight—or even OLED displays that use organic light-emitting materials—Samsung's MicroRGB architecture uses microscopic red, green, and blue LEDs as the display's light source. Each color is generated directly, eliminating the need for traditional color filters while producing exceptional brightness, color purity, and long-term performance.

The result is an image that is incredibly vibrant, remarkably lifelike, and engineered to perform at the highest level in virtually any viewing environment.

Every scene feels more dynamic, every color more natural, and every detail more immersive.

Samsung R85H & R95H: Built for Extraordinary Homes

Samsung's MicroRGB lineup, including the R85H and R95H, is designed for homeowners who expect uncompromising performance from every aspect of their home.

Whether you're creating a dedicated media room, designing a luxury great room, or integrating a complete smart home ecosystem, these displays become the visual centerpiece of the entire experience.

Their sophisticated design complements modern architecture while delivering the kind of cinematic performance typically reserved for commercial reference displays.

When paired with professionally calibrated audio, intelligent lighting, and seamless automation, the result is an entertainment experience unlike anything available from conventional televisions.

MiniLED

At first glance, many televisions appear similar.

The difference is what's happening behind the screen.

Traditional LED televisions use larger backlights with limited precision, making it difficult to accurately balance bright highlights and dark scenes at the same time.

Samsung Mini LED technology dramatically increases the precision of the display by utilizing much smaller LEDs, allowing the television to manage light more effectively across the screen.

The result is:

Improved contrast and shadow detail

Brighter HDR performance

More accurate color reproduction

Better visibility in bright rooms

Enhanced detail in both dark and bright scenes

Smooth motion for sports and gaming

Excellent performance for everyday viewing and premium home theaters

For many homeowners, Mini LED offers an outstanding balance of performance, value, and long-term reliability.

Meet Samsung's Mini LED Lineup

Samsung's 2026 Mini LED lineup includes the M70H, M80H, and flagship M90H, giving homeowners multiple options based on room size, viewing habits, and overall entertainment goals.

Samsung M70H

Is My TV Worth Repairing? How to Determine When It's Time to Replace Your TV

Struggling to hear dialogue over the explosions? The right soundbar fixes that fast, but only if it fits your TV, your room and the way you like to control it.

Soundbars are a great way to get started in the world of surround sound, especially if you don’t want to invest in a full blown system that takes up space and requires more skill and expertise to setup. Our focus today will be on wireless soundbars, which don’t require additional speaker wiring and are the easiest to integrate with your Smart TV.

Let’s start with the basic anatomy of a soundbar. You may have heard the term drivers and tweeters. These are audio components that handle certain audio frequencies - tweeters are for high frequency, mid range/full range drivers are for vocals and woofers are for low frequencies. Each of these drivers are controlled by an audio signal. In order to power the distribution of these audio signals, soundbars utilize an amplifier. All these audio signals are what form “multi channel audio.” The effectiveness of a soundbar is based on the configuration, design and size of these components.

The key takeaway from this is that a good soundbar enhances audio without losing accuracy and maintains dialogue clarity. If it can do that, then it’s achieved its basic function.

Now that you know the basics, here’s a few more things to consider when selecting the right soundbar:

Connection

In order to transmit audio effectively, you need a good connection to your audio source. Ideally, you would get a soundbar with a direct physical connection to your audio source, not something that bluetooths to your TV. Look for one that uses an HDMI eARC connection, which stands for enhanced audio return channel; this is not to be confused with its predecessor the HDMI ARC, which can only handle compressed audio formats such as Dolby Digital. The eARC connection allows for transmission of higher bandwidth audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. However, not all TVs support the eARC connection, especially if you have an older model. If you don’t want to upgrade your TV, you’ll have to stick with a soundbar that uses regular HDMI.

Compatibility

Don’t waste your money on a soundbar that isn’t compatible with existing equipment, unless you have plans to upgrade. This may mean sticking with a brand you already have. Samsung makes some great soundbars and sound systems that are designed to work in tandem with your Samsung TV. Sonos also has some great options that work with pretty much all the TV brands.

Control

Some soundbars, such as the Sonos series, do not come with a physical remote. Sonos soundbars are all app controlled. If your TV is HDMI CEC capable, your TV remote will control the power and volume on your soundbar, so having a separate soundbar remote isn’t always needed unless you need to change audio modes. A universal remote is a great option if you have multiple components and want to simplify your system.

Leon Speakers Tone Case Custom Fit Speaker Grill

Size & Aesthetic

The final aspect to consider is the actual physical appearance and size of the soundbar. Depending on what kind of space you are putting your soundbar in, you may want something low profile or something that fits the width of your TV. Manufacturers such as James Loudspeakers and Leon Speakers provide the option to order a custom sized soundbar or a soundbar case.

Here Are a Few Soundbars We Recommend

The Samsung HW-Q800H Soundbar & Subwoofer Set

This soundbar provides an immersive sound experience powered by 5.1.2 channels of sound, including side- and top-firing speakers and an 8-inch passive radiator subwoofer for deep and rich bass. If you’ve got a Samsung TV, it will sync with the soundbar for an even more enhanced audio experience. Utilizing special sensors, this soundbar calibrates itself by analyzing the room and adjusting the audio to fit the space.

The Sonos Beam Ultra

A great soundbar option for TVs smaller than 65”, the Beam Ultra provides a 7.1.2 surround sound experience. As the more advanced version of the Beam, the Beam Ultra contains 4 more drivers and upward firing speakers for an enhanced listening experience. Like the Arc Ultra, it is AirPlay compatible and users can utilize Bluetooth to stream music.

What to Know Before You Purchase a Soundbar

Our top picks on accessories that are actually helpful to have!

In the era of online shopping and curbside pickup, there are thousands of options of different gadgets and gizmos that all claim to be “just what you need”. Here’s our top picks on the things that really are beneficial to your system:

1. IP Controlled Surge Protectors & Power Conditioners

Power surges are inevitable and if you don’t already have all your household electronics on a surge protector – especially your expensive home theater system – you are already in a bad spot. A surge protector provides basic protection from high voltage spikes; a power conditioner takes it a step further and provides thorough filtration of disruptive electrical signals and fluctuations. Either way, it is crucial to make sure your system and the equipment you invested in is protected. It is also highly convenient to be able to access the system to check its status and troubleshoot without having to call in a professional. The Wattbox IP controlled surge protectors & power conditioners we recommend can be accessed through an app called OVRc, which will give you a breakdown of what devices are or are not connected to the network, and allow you to reboot each product or the whole system. OVRc can also be accessed remotely by an admin, so the installer can monitor your system, proactively resolve issues in the background and provide peace of mind.

2. UPS Battery Backup Systems

If you want to go a step further, you can get a UPS battery backup system that can keep your system running even after a power outage. This is especially important if you work from home and rely on wifi. Not only can a UPS battery backup provide a backup power option for your system, but it can regulate the voltage to your system to prevent damage as well as prevent data loss that can occur if your system shuts down at random. In addition, having a battery backup can eliminate the risk of voiding manufacturer warranty of your system components, which sometimes requires voltage protection to qualify for warranty. Keep in mind the capacity and voltage rating of each backup system will affect how long it will run during a power outage.

3. Audio Video Racks

Even if you don’t have a very large system, it is better to have a centralized location for all your equipment. A rack allows for proper spacing & ventilation, and provides better accessibility. A/V racks are easily adjustable, with removable shelves and have the option to be wall mounted, or even set on tracks to fit within a cabinet. Most manufacturers provide “rack mountable” models of their products and also can provide kits to make your equipment rack mount ready.

4. Universal Remotes

Multiple remotes means more headache and a higher likelihood of not being able to control one component because the remote you thought belonged to it turned out to be for something else. A universal remote can be tailored to your system and setup so that a single button can send out a whole list of commands – such as “system on” will turn on your TV, AVR, speaker system and cable box all at once. Another benefit of having a universal remote is being able to use it on multiple systems, so that your lighting control, shade control and audio control is all on one remote.

5. Outdoor Access Point

If you spend a lot of time outside, whether it be by the pool or in the garden, having an outdoor wifi access point would be a good investment, especially if you are looking to stream music or watch TV outside. Plus, you’ll be able to keep your pool controller, irrigation system or security system online and easily accessible. Having a strong wifi signal shouldn’t just be reserved for indoor activities. Outdoor wifi access is a huge benefit for your guests and your family; if you’ve got teenagers they may be more likely to go outside and if you’re a sports fan, you won’t have to miss the big game because of the “spinning wheel of death”.

Audio Video Accessories that Will Make Your System Better and Your Life Easier

From landscape audio to outdoor TVs, we’ve got the details you need to create your very own backyard oasis.

When it comes to TVs and Audio, most people don’t realize the options available for their outdoor living spaces. Outdoor Audio and Video is just as important as indoor A/V. Afterall, Poolside speakers are what set the vibe for summer parties, and a TV in an outdoor kitchen ensures you don’t miss out on the big game while BBQ’ing.

Outdoor TVs

Outdoor TVs might come with a higher price tag, but they are worth the investment. They are designed specifically for an outdoor environment and provide a better viewing experience.

We often get the question: “Can’t I just get a cheap indoor-rated TV and put it outside?” You could – if you don’t mind voiding your warranty. An indoor-rated TV is not designed for exposure to direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity or high glare environments.

A good outdoor TV will have a high IP (weatherproof) rating, protection against humidity, ability to operate at temps over 100° F, and have a minimum brightness level of 500 nits if viewing in the shade, and 1,000 nits minimum if viewing in direct sun. Not all outdoor TVs can withstand direct sunlight, however, so pay close attention when picking out a model to ensure you are getting a TV rated for where it will be placed.

The IP rating is based on a 2-number scale, where a higher number indicates better protection. The first digit indicates the level of protection against dust. You want a rating of at least 5, which indicates dust will not harm the equipment. The highest rating of 6 means it is fully protected against dust. The second digit indicates the level of water protection. While the highest rating of 9 is not necessary since your TV won’t be submerged under water, you do want at least a 4, which will protect against drips, sprays and splashes. Even better would be a 5 or 6, which would provide protection against actual downpours.

There are a couple manufacturers that make outdoor TVs, Samsung and Furrion being our favorites.

Our top pick is the Samsung Terrace. The Terrace has 2 options: a partial-sun and a full sun model. Both have very similar specs, although there is a difference in some of the sizes available. The main difference is the full sun model being able to withstand up to 6hrs of direct sunlight at 104° F.

1,500 nits

Furrion also makes outdoor TVs. Their TVs are equipped with a scratch and impact resistant screen protector as well as a wifi signal enhancer. The Aurora series has a partial sun, full sun and full shade option.

Whichever TV you decide to go with, make sure you have access to power wherever the TV will be mounted. Oftentimes getting an electrician involved will be necessary, so make sure to get that lined up before getting Bond’s out to mount the TV. If you are relying mainly on streaming, ensuring your wifi has the bandwidth to support a signal outside is a crucial step; you may need an outdoor access point, which Bond’s can install for you.

Outdoor Audio

Now that you have selected a TV, it is time to move on to audio. While a TV is pretty hard to conceal, audio can be placed subtly within your landscape – whether it be mounting to trees, underneath the eves, or utilizing a speaker that is designed to look like a rock.

If you’re looking for a more traditional option, both the Samsung Terrace and Furrion Aurora series TVs have outdoor rated soundbars that can be paired with the TVs. A soundbar is a great option for a seating area or patio, but if you want true surround sound, getting some landscape speakers - either in ground or mounted on the wall or in the ceiling – will create an ideal audio experience. Definitive Technology, Episode and Origin Acoustics are all great brands for outdoor surround sound equipment.

For a more subtle option, going with a rock speaker will not only improve audio but boost your landscape aesthetic. If you’re looking for more of an all-in-one option, Episode makes a speaker with a removable lighting module that can be hung as a pendant, mounted on the wall or secured on the ground.

The one drawback to landscape speakers is the added complexity of running speaker wire to each speaker. This can add to the expense and should be done carefully so that the wire is not exposed or causing interference. This is where the Sonos Move wireless smart speaker excels – it is the best option for quality, portable audio. Most bluetooth/wireless speakers lack audio quality, but the Move is equipped with precision-tuned amps, tweeters and woofer. Don’t believe us? Stop by our showroom for a demo.

Take a look at some of our favorite outdoor speaker models:
